Welcome
Welcome to the 2009 conference web-site for the Society of Australasian Social Psychologists (SASP). The annual SASP conference has a long history dating back over 30 years, in recent years attracting between 130 and 170 delegates. It is the most popular avenue for the dissemination of current social psychological research within Australasia, and attracts pre-eminent national and international researchers. The conference is also characterised by a strong postgraduate student representation.
Conference presentations cover a diverse range of social psychological research topics (ranging from intra-psychic process, interpersonal processes, group and cultural processes) and methodologies (experimental, quasi-experimental, survey, qualitative, and discourse). Our research is concerned both with basic psychological processes and areas of applied social psychological research, such as psychology and the law, health, relationships, and organisational psychology.
The 2009 SASP will be held from Thursday April 16 to Sunday April 19 in Melbourne, Australia. The conference is being hosted by the Melbourne Social Psychology Group, comprising academic staff and postgraduate students from La Trobe University, University of Melbourne, Deakin University, Swinburne University of Technology and Victoria University. These pages provide you with information about the conference academic, social and cultural program, allow you to register as a conference delegate, and submit a request to be a part of the academic program.

If you would like to be involved in any of the following activities, please tick the relevant box on the registration page.- There will be welcome drinks on Thursday evening at Rydges from 6 to 7.30pm.
- A postgraduate dinner will occur Friday evening at 3degrees in the QV Centre in the city (http://www.3degrees.com.au/location.html). If you are interested in attending please contact Matt Stuckey.
- The conference coincides with the world-famous Melbourne International Comedy Festival. There are many great shows to see, and Warwick Hosking has suggested that interested delegates might like to go with him to see the very funny Mark Watson "All The Thoughts I've Had Since I Was Born" on Friday evening. If you would like to go along, please email Warwick directly by Friday 27th of March.
- Delegates are invited to take an early tour of the Queen Victoria Market for breakfast on Saturday, leaving from Rydges at 7.00am.
- A conference dinner will be held on Saturday evening at the Wesley Anne Bar/Restaurant, 250 High Street, Northcote (10 minutes from the city). The Wesley Anne is a charming converted church and has distinctly ‘Melbourne’ feel. The informal dinner will include food and alcohol (beer and wine) at a cost of $40 per person. The Number 86 (Bundoora/RMIT) tram is the easiest option for transport to the Wesley Anne as it travels right past (get off at Stop 31 and a short walk)
